Patates Dolbec went around the world to find the best optical machine to sort potatoes efficiently. Despite this, the company had an error rate of 20%. As a result, employees had to sort some of the potatoes manually. This was a low value-added task, a loss of a significant amount of healthy potatoes and associated income, a risk of occupational illness, and a lack of manpower. The situation created enough challenges for the company to perfect its quality control process.
Thanks to its efforts, it has reduced its error rate from 20% to 5%. Its secret: artificial intelligence.
