Data Literacy

Essential for decision-making and artificial intelligence.

Course Description

All too often, we find ourselves having to work with data that is poorly structured, disparate, inconsistent, and sometimes even incomplete.

“Without a systematic approach to ensuring data is clean from the start and remains that way, bad data will inevitably occur.”–
Donato Diorio, founder and CEO of DataZ

Knowing how to analyze the data your organization holds is a significant asset for better understanding the environment in which it operates and better anticipating the future.

Data is indeed crucial for making better business decisions. But you still need to know how to clean it, organize it, and present it in a visual format that “speaks.”

This training course offers practical ways to fully harness the potential of your data, make it more meaningful, and use it to support your decisions. You’ll also learn about the concepts of artificial intelligence and come to understand the importance of relying on high-quality data in sufficient quantities.

Prerequisites: Relevant workplace experience and a basic understanding of Lean tools and continuous improvement

General Objective

This training course will teach you how to combine and properly manipulate multiple data sources and then incorporate them into a dashboard.

It will also enable you to create the right conditions to move on to the next stage of your digital transformation: the use of artificial intelligence.

Who is this training course intended for?

This training is intended for executives, managers, team leaders, supervisors, project managers, change agents, Lean practitioners, and leaders or specialists in quality and continuous improvement.

Benefits

By the end of this training, you will have the tools to:

  • obtain clearer data;
  • rely on reliable data;
  • improve decision-making;
  • pave the way for the implementation of artificial intelligence in your organization.

Course Details

The training will be conducted using Microsoft Power BI Desktop. It can be downloaded and used for free (however, Microsoft may revise this policy in 2021). Several of the features covered during the training are also available in Microsoft Excel.

Importing and Working with Data Using Power Query

We will explore the data manipulation features of Power Query, which are available in both Microsoft Power BI and Microsoft Excel. With this tool, we will be able to create transformation flows that can then be applied as many times as necessary to update the data.

Create relational models to organize your data

Microsoft Power BI and Microsoft Excel include tools that allow you to define relational data models—that is, rules that link multiple data sources. We will explain and apply the concepts of cardinality, primary keys, and filter direction.

Create a simple dashboard to get the most out of your work

Once our data has been cleaned and linked, we’ll see how to create a simple dashboard that can be refreshed as new data becomes available. We’ll also explore how to create interactive elements in dashboards and share tips for maximizing their visual effectiveness.

Exploring the possibilities of artificial intelligence

Microsoft Power BI already includes several artificial intelligence-related features in 2020. More will likely be added in 2021. We’ll take a look at the most interesting ones in this rapidly evolving field.
